A happy family
Sometimes we can choose the easy way and accuse our parents for behaving and treating us (children) so bad. But let us turn the question around. How do we treat our parents?
First let us read what Gods plan for the family is.
The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice; and he who fathers a wise child shall have joy from him. Your father and your mother shall be glad, and she who bore you shall rejoice. (Proverbs 23:24-25)
God’s plan is that your parents should rejoice in you. They should be proud of you and draw joy from you. When a child is born it is one of the biggest moments in a person’s life. I remember a Norwegian football coach once said „It is impossible to see a childbirth and not believe in God.” It is such a powerful and big experience. But, as the child grows up God wants this amazement and parental pride to continue. „Look, his first steps!”, „First day in school”, „Driving license”, „Finished university”, „Got married” etc…
God wants you to bring joy to the family. It is not only you who should expect money, food and everything from your parents. God has ordered it to be so that you give back as well. You help out in your family, you support your parents and do everything you can to honor them. Often you will find that both parents work full-time so that they can pay the bills, buy food and so that you can take part in the summer camp, go to school and get your birthday presents. Let us honor our parents, do our homework, clean our rooms and make it a joy to be our parents!
Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. (Ephesians 6:2)
