Not a pleasure boat, but a …
With all the promises of prosperity, goodness, love and hope for our christian lives it is easy to get sidetracked and believe that our lives as christians is like a life on a pleasure boat.
Of course, it is true that there are pleasures, great joys and lots of fun in our lives with God. But we need to understand that we are not first of all on a pleasure boat. We are on a lifeboat! We are out to save and rescue people from eternal condemnation in hell. Sometimes we need to lay aside our own comforts and pleasures, and get dirty doing hard work! Everyone is needed for the rescue work!
When Donau was flooded during the spring 2006, it came a time when even the people of highest rank in Hungary had to lay aside their nice clothes and go to the ditches! Its time to get dirty! But not protecting Budapest, or any other city, from the Danube, but from the coming wrath of God that is upon everyone who has not received Jesus Christ of Nazareth as their saviour. Once God was judging the world with water (during Noahs days), but later he will judge it with fire.
”For this is hidden from them by their willing it, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of the water, and through water, being held together by the Word of God, through which the world that then was, being flooded by water, perished. But the present heavens and the earth being kept in store by the same Word, are being kept for fire until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.” (2.Peter.3:5-7)
The church of God is on a mission more important than anything else! We are on a lifeboat rescuing people from the fire of hell. Everyone is needed, everyone is called. The only thing you will bring with you to heaven is people! Its time to get to work!
