Who is God? How does he look? Has he personality? Is he interested in me?

There are many questions coming to our minds as we mention ”God.” Everyone have an opinion about him, and what he is like. Some might say he is ”a grumpy old guy in heaven”, others describe him as love, while others smile and tell you he is a fantasy figure or a nice thing to believe in for weak people. Everyone has an opinion about him. Whats yours?

Some people get scared thinking about God. The thought that there is someone who sees everything, knows everything is not exactly making them happy. Why? Maybe because there is a fear of judgement later. And in all of this you have those christians running around telling that ”God is love” and ”Jesus loves you.” Maybe you have thought: ”Those people need to look around. Can’t they see the wars, famine and all my problems. How can there be a God who loves us in all of this?” It’s a good question! Let us start to think:

If a mum and dad would go on vacation to Norway for 2 weeks. As they left they gave 30.000 Ft to the oldest of their children, to take care of everyone while they were gone. But, as soon as they had left the house, the oldest one ran to West End and used all the money buying computer games, candy and other things. Who is to blame? Is it the mum and dad? Not really. They trusted in their son, the one that they ”created”, but he blew it up. He was given the possibility to do good, but decided not to.

As we look out on this world today we see people who are hungry and we blame God for it. The truth is that there is more than enough of money and resources in this world to give food and clean water to everyone. The problem is that we are to selfish to give them away. It is not Gods fault, but he has given us this responsibility to use the things that he has given us. That means that the way Bill Gates, David Beckham, Peter Jackson and you decide to spend money, is a personal decision. But if you want to, you can give them to the poor. And if we all did, it would be more than enough.

What about my personal problems? Where is God in these?
Have you ever had someone knocking your door, whom you did not know, and suddenly they said: ”Can I please wash your kitchen?” Normally this is not happening. But if you call a phone and ask for help it will come. The reason why many people dont seem to get help from God is that they never ask. And when they first ask, they forget to look back and give thanks when the answer is there. God loves to answer you and he wants to answer you. John 10:10 sais: ”The thief (the devil) cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I (Jesus) came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.” There is one who wants your life to be miserable, to destroy it, and that wants you to take your life… the devil! Jesus on the other hand sais that he came that we may have life, and that abundantly. He wants you to do good, to be happy and to rejoice.

Then I think God should give me some more money!
Money is a very nice thing, and we need it in this world to survive. But it is not a source to everlasting joy. If you go to various parts of this earth you can find people who have nothing, but they are thousand times more happy than most europeans? Why? Because they have a joy on their inside that is not dependent on money. A joy that is coming from the creator of the universe, God! In the hearts of all men there is a longing for fellowship with God. If you have ever been in love, you can know that there is an ”emptiness” feeling when you are away from the one you love. It is the same with God, just stronger. In the beginning he created us all to fellowship with him in Paraidse. But as we disobeyed God, sin entered the world, and God had to punish it. He had to throw us out.

But, why?
If heaven is supposed to be the nice place it is supposed to be, sin can have no space there. Just imagine waking up in heaven, and what you meet is people speaking bad about each other and a fight between two old colleagues! NO! Heaven is to be perfect. God made it as a perfect place for you and me. So as sin entered he had to throw it out.

Heaven = Impossible?
How is it then possible to get into heaven? As everyone has sinned, noone can deserve Heaven, but God has a solution. Jesus Christ. He went around on this earth, healed the sick, preached the word of God and was both God and man at the same time. He was a perfect man, without any sin or bad things in his life. Because of this he could be the sacrifice, the one who took the guilt for all the wrong things we do. He was dying on the cross, for you and me. He loved us so much that he would die for people who had turned their backs to him, tortured him, spoken bad about him and even cruzified him! This is first of all what Gods love is about! He sent Jesus to die for us!

Jesus said: ”I am the way, the truth and the life; the only way to God.” Everything is ready. The way to God is open. But as with all other gifts you need to receive it. Believe in Jesus and start to follow him. As you do this your sin will be removed, and you can be perfect in the eyes of God, and know that you are on the way to Heaven!

So it’s time to take the first step, pray for forgiveness, turn around and start a new life following Jesus, in fellowship with the living God. WHAT A LIFE!

If you would like to do this now as you are reading, with your own words start to speak to God. Ask forgiveness for your sins, and make Jesus Christ your new Lord!

Also if you do this you should find a church in your neighbourhood. Maybe those who gave you this paper, or if you know about another church you can visit them! But as we follow Jesus, it is so good to start listening to teaching from the Word of God. This will help us to open your eyes for even more of all the blessings and help God has our lives!
